GFAP Antibody (F-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody designed to detect glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), an essential intermediate filament protein predominantly expressed in astroglial cells within the central nervous system. Targeting an epitope between amino acids 2-19 at the N-terminus of human GFAP, anti-GFAP antibody (F-7) is effective in recognizing GFAP from mouse, rat, and human species through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GFAP, also known as ALXDRD, plays a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity and mechanical resilience of astrocytes, facilitating intracellular transport, and supporting cellular responses to injury and stress. The function of GFAP is vital for astrocyte-mediated processes like neurotransmitter regulation, blood-brain barrier maintenance, and response to neurological insults. Elevated GFAP expression is a hallmark of astrogliosis, a reactive process associated with various neuropathological conditions including mechanical trauma, inflammatory demyelinating diseases, prion infections, and AIDS related dementia. By providing precise localization and quantification of GFAP, GFAP monoclonal antibody (F-7) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying the molecular mechanisms underlying neural health, disease progression, and the role of astrocytes in maintaining central nervous system homeostasis. Available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® variants, GFAP (F-7) antibody is indispensable for advancing our understanding of astrocyte biology and the pathophysiology of numerous neurological disorders.

Dear Mr/Mrs, This is an bio-researcher from Korea. I'm just wondering F-2, F-7 means. I would like to buy some antibodies from yours but i can't notice the difference between F-2 and F-7. Please let me know then. Have a great day. Best Regards

Asked by: Alice
Thank you for your question. (F-2) and (F-7) are the clone numbers of the antibodies, which are randomly encoded when generating antibodies, without specific significance. These two antibodies look almost identical, and the recommended species reactivity and immunological experimental methods are the same. The immunogen information is also the same. The difference is the immunoglobulin type, one is IgG1, and the other is IgG2a.

I am using GFAP Antibody (F-7): sc-166458 for Western blot. How do I know if the band I am detecting is specific?

Asked by: DefinitelyNotMatt
Thank you for your question. We recommend using the blocking peptide sc-166458 P as a negative control. Antibody binding to antigen may be blocked/competed by pre-absorption with the blocking peptide. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/peptide-neutralization Please contact Technical Service if you have further questions concerning this product.
