Gemin4 is a crucial component of the SMN core complex, primarily involved in the assembly of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), which are essential for pre-mRNA splicing. This process is vital for proper gene expression, ensuring introns are removed and exons are joined together to form mature mRNA. Gemin4′s localization in the cytoplasm facilitates snRNP biogenesis, delivery, and recycling to the spliceosome, while Gemin4′s concentration in the nucleus, particularly near coiled bodies within subnuclear structures known as gems, underscores a role in splicing regulation.
