GDF-15 Antibody (G-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects GDF-15 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GDF-15 (G-5) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15), also known as PDF, MIC-1, PLAB, NAG-1, or PTGF-β, is a member of the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) superfamily, synthesized intracellularly and secreted as a dimer linked by disulfide bonds. GDF-15 is predominantly expressed in epithelial cells and macrophages, with significant expression in the choroid plexus of the brain, where GDF-15 is secreted into the cerebrospinal fluid. GDF-15 plays a crucial role in cellular responses to stress and injury, acting as a protective factor for neurons by promoting cell survival and differentiation through the activation of the Akt signaling pathway and inhibition of ERK. GDF-15 expression is regulated by the p53 tumor suppressor protein, highlighting GDF-15′s importance in cancer biology, particularly in prostate cancer, where overexpression may serve as a diagnostic marker. Additionally, GDF-15 is implicated in reproductive health, as GDF-15 may help suppress proinflammatory cytokines in the uterus, thereby promoting fetal survival.
