GCAP1 Antibody (F-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects guanylate cyclase-activating protein 1 (GCAP1) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GCAP1 plays a crucial role in the recovery of the dark state of rod photoreceptors after exposure to light by mediating the intracellular stimulation of guanylate cyclase through calcium binding. GCAP1 is primarily located in the outer segments of rod and cone photoreceptors, where GCAP1 is essential for phototransduction, the process by which light is converted into electrical signals in the retina. Notably, GCAP1 is unique among calcium-binding proteins in the calmodulin superfamily because GCAP1′s calcium-free form actively stimulates the effector enzyme, thereby enhancing the synthesis of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (c-GMP) in photoreceptors. The molecular structure of GCAP1 consists of 201 to 205 amino acids and features three conserved calcium-binding sites, which are critical for GCAP1′s function. Additionally, GCAP2, a related protein that arises from a gene duplication event, is exclusively found in the retina, highlighting the specialized role of GCAP proteins in visual signaling. With high specificity and reactivity, anti-GCAP1 antibody (F-6) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying the mechanisms of phototransduction and related retinal disorders.
