SEE ALSO...

γ-sarcoglycan Antibody (E-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects gamma-sarcoglycan of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-gamma-sarcoglycan antibody (E-8) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Gamma-sarcoglycan plays a crucial role in the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex, which maintains the structural integrity of muscle cell membranes. Gamma-sarcoglycan is primarily located in the cell membrane of skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle fibers, where gamma-sarcoglycan interacts with other sarcoglycan subunits—α-, β-, and δ-sarcoglycan—to form a stable complex that protects muscle cells from damage during contraction. A deficiency or mutation in any sarcoglycan proteins can lead to complex destabilization, resulting in conditions such as sarcoglycanopathy, a form of autosomal recessive muscular dystrophy. In smooth muscle, β- and δ-sarcoglycans interact with ε-sarcoglycan, a glycoprotein homologous to α-sarcoglycan, highlighting gamma-sarcoglycan′s importance in muscle function and pathology. A complete deficiency in δ-sarcoglycan has been linked to cardiomyopathy development in the Syrian hamster BIO.14 model, underscoring gamma-sarcoglycan′s significance in muscle health and disease.
