FMR1 Antibody (148.1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects FMR1 protein of mouse and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). FMR1 (148.1) antibody is available as the non-conjugated form. FMR1 protein, also known as Fragile X Mental Retardation Protein (FMRP), plays a crucial role in regulating synaptic plasticity and is essential for normal cognitive function. FMRP is primarily located in the cytoplasm, where FMRP associates with polyribosomes to facilitate transport and translation of specific mRNAs, thereby influencing protein synthesis in response to neuronal activity. This localization enables FMRP to modulate translation of proteins critical for synaptic development and function, particularly important in fragile X syndrome, the most common form of inherited intellectual disability. In fragile X syndrome, FMR1 gene undergoes transcriptional silencing due to CGG repeat expansion in its 5′ untranslated region, leading to FMRP deficiency. FMRP absence disrupts normal synaptic function and contributes to cognitive and behavioral challenges associated with the disorder. FMR1 (148.1) monoclonal antibody serves as an essential tool for researchers studying molecular mechanisms underlying fragile X syndrome and related disorders, as well as exploring broader implications of FMRP in neurodevelopmental processes.
