Ep-CAM Antibody (HEA125) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects the epithelial cell adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM) of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. Anti-Ep-CAM antibody (HEA125) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The epithelial cell adhesion molecule, also known as tumor-associated calcium signal transducer 1 and MK-1, is a crucial monomeric membrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed in normal human epithelial tissues and various carcinomas. The human Ep-CAM gene encodes a 314 amino acid protein that exists in two forms, with the major form being significantly reduced when treated with the amino-glycosylation inhibitor tunicamycin. Notably, Ep-CAM plays a vital role in cell adhesion, which is essential for maintaining tissue integrity and facilitating cellular communication. Ep-CAM′s overexpression in numerous carcinomas makes Ep-CAM a promising target for both visualization and therapeutic intervention of human solid tumors. The structure of Ep-CAM includes an extracellular domain with two epidermal growth factor-like repeats, followed by a cysteine-poor region that is critical for adhesive properties, underscoring Ep-CAM′s importance in cancer biology and potential as a biomarker for tumor progression.
