SEE ALSO...

Ep-CAM Antibody (EBA-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects epithelial cell adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM) of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and flow cytometry (FCM). Ep-CAM (EBA-1) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Epithelial cell adhesion molecule, also known as tumor-associated calcium signal transducer 1 and MK-1, is a crucial monomeric membrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed in normal human epithelial tissues and various carcinomas. Human Ep-CAM gene encodes a 314 amino acid protein that exists in two forms, a major and a minor variant, with the latter being reduced upon treatment with the amino-glycosylation inhibitor tunicamycin. Ep-CAM plays a significant role in cell-cell adhesion, which is vital for maintaining tissue integrity and regulating cellular signaling pathways. Ep-CAM overexpression in numerous carcinomas makes this protein a promising target for both visualization and therapeutic strategies in human solid tumors. Ep-CAM structure includes an extracellular domain with two epidermal growth factor-like repeats followed by a cysteine-poor region, which is essential for adhesive properties, thereby highlighting Ep-CAM importance in both normal physiology and cancer pathology.

How well is this Ab validated for the use in the rat species? We are trying to find an Ab for looking at EpCAM on rat epithelial cells by flow cytommetry.

Asked by: JuWei
Thank you for your question. We do not currently have data using this antibody in any rat cell lines, but the antibody is recommended for use in rat based on product citations in mouse and rat samples. One example of a product citation in rat tissue specifically can be found on PubMed with PMID: 22093411.
