SEE ALSO...

Ep-CAM Antibody (9C4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Ep-CAM of human origin by immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and flow cytometry (FCM). Anti-Ep-CAM antibody (9C4) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates, providing versatility for different experimental needs. The epithelial cell adhesion molecule, also known as tumor-associated calcium signal transducer 1 and MK-1, plays a crucial role in cell-cell adhesion and is predominantly expressed in normal human epithelial tissues as well as in various carcinomas. The human Ep-CAM gene encodes a 314 amino acid protein that exists in two forms, with the major form being more prevalent; interestingly, the expression of these forms can be altered by the amino-glycosylation inhibitor tunicamycin. Notably, Ep-CAM is often overexpressed in a range of carcinomas, making Ep-CAM a significant target for both visualization and therapeutic strategies in human solid tumors. The protein features an extracellular domain that includes two epidermal growth factor-like repeats, which are essential for adhesive properties, thereby highlighting Ep-CAM′s importance in maintaining tissue architecture and integrity.

Can Ep-CAM (9C4): sc-21792 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: Trav11
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, Ep-CAM (9C4): sc-21792 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.

I am planning to use 9C4 EpCAM antibody to stain human cells in mouse tissues. Have you tested the reactivity against mouse EpCAM? Another question is which part of the protein does the antibody recognize? Extracellular or intracellular? Thank you.

Asked by: yasemin
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we do not recommend nor warranty this antibody for use on mouse samples as we do not have any record of mouse reactivity. The antibody was made against a DU.4475 breast carcinoma and the exact epitope has not been mapped. It is a surface antigen, so extracellular/membrane expression is expected.
