DEDD plays a crucial role in apoptosis, which is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis by eliminating unwanted or damaged cells. DEDD is primarily located in the cytoplasm but translocates to the nucleus during CD95-mediated apoptosis, where DEDD localizes to nucleoli-like structures.
