Cytokeratin 23 Antibody (C-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Cytokeratin 23 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Cytokeratin 23 antibody (C-1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Cytokeratin 23, also known as KRT23, K23, CK23, or HAIK1, is a 422 amino acid intermediate filament protein that plays a crucial role in maintaining the structural integrity of epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 23 functions as a heterotetramer composed of two type I and two type II cytokeratins, which is essential for the mechanical stability of tissues. Cytokeratin 23 is primarily located in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells, where Cytokeratin 23 contributes to the formation of the cytoskeleton, providing resilience against mechanical stress. This structural role is particularly important in tissues that undergo significant stretching or deformation, such as the skin and certain glandular tissues. Notably, Cytokeratin 23 expression is upregulated in pancreatic cancer cells, indicating potential involvement in tumorigenesis and suggesting use as a biomarker for certain malignancies.
