CYP17A1 Antibody (D-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects CYP17A1 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). CYP17A1 (D-12) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. CYP17A1 protein, also known as cytochrome P450 family 17 subfamily A member 1, plays a pivotal role in steroidogenesis by catalyzing the conversion of pregnenolone and progesterone into dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and androstenedione through dual enzymatic activities of 17-alpha-hydroxylation and 17,20-lyase reaction. This function is essential for sex steroid production, critical for sexual development during both fetal growth and puberty. Intracellular regulation of CYP17A1 is influenced by cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels, highlighting CYP17A1′s importance in endocrine signaling pathways. Mutations in CYP17A1 gene can lead to adrenal hyperplasia type V (AH-V), a condition characterized by hypokalemia and hypertension, where affected males may exhibit female external genitalia and fail to undergo normal sexual differentiation and pubertal development.
