SEE ALSO...

CROT Antibody (H-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects CROT protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-CROT antibody (H-1) is available as the non-conjugated form. CROT, or carnitine O-octanoyltransferase, is a vital enzyme within the carnitine/choline acetyltransferase protein family, which also includes other key enzymes such as carnitine acetyltransferase and carnitine palmitoyltransferase. CROT is primarily located in peroxisomes and is abundantly expressed in the liver, kidney, and proximal intestinal epithelium, where CROT plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism. CROT catalyzes the reversible conversion of acyl-CoAs to their corresponding carnitine esters, a critical step that facilitates the transport of fatty acids from peroxisomes to mitochondria for further degradation. This process is essential for energy metabolism in eukaryotic cells, particularly for the β-oxidation of fatty acids, which is necessary for generating ATP. Notably, CROT exhibits a preference for medium-chain acyl-CoAs, specifically those with chain lengths ranging from C6 to C10, and CROT activity can be inhibited by malonyl-CoA, highlighting the regulatory mechanisms that control fatty acid metabolism.

I am using CROT (H-1): sc-365976 monoclonal antibody to stain paraffin embedded tissue. Do you recommend antigen retrieval when using this antibody?

Asked by: AbPolly
We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
