Coilin Antibody (B-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects coilin in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-coilin antibody (B-7) plays a crucial role in the study of nuclear coiled bodies, which are essential nuclear organelles involved in RNA transcription and processing. Coilin is vital for the proper formation and function of these Cajal bodies, as coilin facilitates the recruitment of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs) and survival motor neuron (SMN) complex proteins, which are critical for RNA splicing and gene expression regulation. Notably, coilin directly interacts with SMN proteins during this recruitment process, competing with SmB′ for binding, which underscores coilin′s importance in maintaining cellular RNA metabolism. Additionally, coilin′s structural features, particularly the self-associating domain located at the N-terminus, are essential for the assembly and stability of Cajal bodies, while the C-terminus regulates their abundance within the cell. Understanding coilin dynamics and interactions not only sheds light on the fundamental processes of RNA biology but also highlights potential implications in neurodegenerative diseases where SMN protein function is compromised.
