    SEE ALSO...

CNTF Antibody (C-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). CNTF is a crucial neuropoietic cytokine that plays a significant role in promoting the survival and differentiation of various cell types, including sensory, sympathetic, and motor neurons, which is vital for maintaining nervous system integrity. CNTF belongs to a cytokine family including leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), sharing structural similarities and utilizing common receptor components for signaling. The CNTF receptor complex, composed of CNTFRα, a specific chain for CNTF, and a heterodimer of gp130 chain and LIFRβ chain, mediates CNTF effects. This complex enhances DNA synthesis by activating transcription factors Stat1 and Stat3, which are critical for cellular responses. CNTF has been implicated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) pathogenesis, highlighting CNTF′s importance in neurodegenerative diseases. Research indicates that while mice lacking CNTF exhibit certain deficiencies, those with a homozygous null mutation in CNTFRα experience perinatal mortality and severe motor neuron deficits, suggesting CNTFRα may have additional ligands crucial for neonatal nervous system development. Anti-CNTF antibody (C-12) serves as an invaluable tool for studying CNTF′s role in both normal physiology and disease states.
