Chondroitinase Antibody (G-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects the Chondroitinase protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Chondroitinase (G-4) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Chondroitinase, also known as GALNS (galactosamine (N-acetyl)-6-sulfate sulfatase), GAS, or MPS4A, is a 522 amino acid protein localized to the lysosome, where Chondroitinase plays a critical role as an exohydrolase in the degradation of glycosaminoglycans, particularly keratan sulfate and chondroitin 6-sulfate. Chondroitinase enzymatic activity depends on calcium as a cofactor, and functions by catalyzing the hydrolysis of the 6-sulfate group on target substrates, which is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing glycosaminoglycan accumulation. Notably, defects in the gene encoding Chondroitinase lead to mucopolysaccharidosis type 4A (MPS4A), an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder characterized by intracellular buildup of keratan sulfate and chondroitin-6-sulfate, resulting in severe clinical manifestations such as dental anomalies, short stature, and potentially life-threatening complications in early adulthood.
