CD88 Antibody (P12/1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects CD88 in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and flow cytometry (FCM). CD88, also known as the C5a receptor (C5aR), is a G protein-coupled integral membrane protein predominantly expressed on immune cells including neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, and mast cells, as well as on various epithelial and endothelial cells. Anti-CD88 antibody (P12/1) recognizes a receptor that plays a crucial role in mediating the inflammatory response by binding to the inflammatory peptide C5a, which triggers a cascade of cellular events leading to the production of acute phase proteins in the liver. CD88′s significance extends to its involvement in various pathological conditions; for instance, elevated levels of CD88 in the brain have been linked to neuroinflammation, while its interaction with C5a is implicated in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis. Furthermore, research indicates that human bronchial epithelial cells exhibit heightened sensitivity to C5a following exposure to environmental irritants such as cigarette smoke, underscoring CD88′s importance in both innate immunity and chronic inflammatory diseases. CD88 (P12/1) antibody serves as an essential tool for researchers aiming to explore the multifaceted roles of this receptor in health and disease.

Can CD88 (P12/1): sc-53794 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: Trav11
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, CD88 (P12/1): sc-53794 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.
