CD88 Antibody (B-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects CD88 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). CD88 (B-6) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. CD88, also known as C5a receptor (C5aR), is a G protein-coupled integral membrane protein that plays a crucial role in immune response. CD88 is predominantly expressed on immune cells such as neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, and mast cells, as well as on hepatocytes and various epithelial and endothelial cells. CD88 functions as a receptor for inflammatory peptide C5a, which is a potent mediator of inflammation. Upon binding of C5a, CD88 activates intracellular signaling pathways that lead to acute phase protein production in the liver, highlighting CD88′s role in acute phase response during inflammation. Elevated levels of CD88 have been associated with inflammatory conditions in the brain, suggesting CD88′s involvement in neuroinflammatory processes. Research indicates that C5a/CD88 axis may contribute to pathogenesis of various inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, and human bronchial epithelial cells exhibit increased sensitivity to C5a following exposure to environmental irritants such as cigarette smoke.
