SEE ALSO...

CD52 Antibody (HI186) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects CD52 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and flow cytometry (FCM). CD52 (HI186) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including phycoerythrin (PE) and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC). CD52 protein is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored surface antigen predominantly expressed on epithelial cells of the male reproductive tract, as well as on thymocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages, with variable expression in lymphoid malignancies. CD52 presence on the surface of epididymal sperm and in seminal plasma is crucial for sperm maturation, as spermatozoa acquire CD52 during passage through the genital tract, which is shed from the epithelial lining. CD52 is absent on spermatogenic cells and testicular spermatozoa, highlighting a specific role in later stages of sperm development. CD52 structure, characterized by a peptide backbone of 12 amino acids, serves primarily as a scaffold for essential post-translational modifications, including GPI anchoring and N-glycosylation, which are vital for stability and function in cellular interactions.

Can CD52 (HI186): sc-51560 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: Professor Griffin
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, CD52 (HI186): sc-51560 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.
