SEE ALSO...

CCS Antibody (H-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects CCS protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). CCS (H-7) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The copper chaperone for superoxide dismutase-1 (CCS) plays a critical role in cellular antioxidant defense by facilitating the incorporation of copper into superoxide dismutase-1 (SOD-1), an enzyme essential for detoxifying harmful superoxide radicals. This process is vital because SOD-1 requires copper and zinc as cofactors to function effectively, and CCS ensures that copper is delivered specifically to SOD-1, preventing copper from binding to other intracellular copper-binding proteins that could disrupt cellular homeostasis. CCS is predominantly expressed in the kidney, liver, and Purkinje cells of the central nervous system, highlighting CCS′s importance in tissues that are particularly susceptible to oxidative stress. Furthermore, CCS exists as a homodimer and can form a heterodimer with SOD-1 during the copper loading process, which underscores CCS′s unique interaction with SOD-1 and significance in maintaining SOD-1′s activity and stability.
