Cardiotin Antibody (SR-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that recognizes Cardiotin in human and porcine samples through western blotting (WB), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Cardiotin is a high molecular weight protein complex located in the mitochondrial membrane, playing a crucial role in maintaining mitochondrial function and energy production vital for proper cardiac cell function. The structure of Cardiotin consists of two subunits sharing a highly conserved N-terminal 14 amino acid sequence, demonstrating significant homology to human skeletal muscle α-actinin. This tetrameric configuration forms a transmembrane complex with the N-terminus positioned on the cytoplasmic side of the membrane, allowing effective interaction with actin filaments. Such interactions are essential for the structural integrity and contractile function of cardiomyocytes. During cardiac contractile dysfunction, Cardiotin distribution changes in pathological cardiomyocytes, such as those found in chronic ischemic myocardium, making anti-Cardiotin antibody (SR-4) valuable for detecting disturbances in mitochondrial activity associated with chronic ischemia or chronic atrial fibrillation.
