CaM Antibody (G-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects CaM protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). CaM (G-3) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Calmodulin (CaM) plays a crucial role as a universal calcium sensor, regulating intracellular calcium levels vital for numerous physiological processes. CaM is primarily located in the cytoplasm, where CaM interacts with various target proteins to mediate calcium signaling pathways. This localization enables rapid response to changes in calcium concentration, facilitating involvement in diverse cellular functions such as muscle contraction, cell proliferation, and neurotransmitter release. CaM′s structure, characterized by four helix-loop-helix calcium-binding domains, enables conformational changes upon calcium binding, critical for interacting with and modulating various enzymes and ion channels. In humans, three distinct genes (CALM1, CALM2, and CALM3) encode CaM, highlighting evolutionary importance in calcium signaling. Additionally, CALML3, a calmodulin-related protein, shares significant sequence identity with CaM and may compete for binding with CaM substrates, suggesting a complex regulatory network. CaM′s association with the carboxy terminus of the dystrophin gene product further implies a role in muscle function and integrity, making CaM a key player in both normal physiology and disease states.
