Calpain 1 Antibody (6C-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects Calpain 1 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). Calpain 1, also known as µ-calpain, is an intracellular calcium-dependent protease that plays a crucial role in various cellular processes by cleaving cytoskeletal and submembranous proteins. Anti-Calpain 1 antibody (6C-12) recognizes a protein essential for mediating specific calcium-dependent functions, including cell fusion, mitosis, and meiosis, which are vital for normal cellular activities and development. The structure of Calpain 1 is characterized by its heterodimeric composition, consisting of a small regulatory subunit and a large catalytic subunit, which allows for precise regulation of proteolytic activity. Calpain 1′s regulation is further influenced by calpastatin, a specific inhibitor that modulates activity and membrane binding, highlighting the importance of post-translational modifications in controlling function. Notably, Calpain 1 co-localizes with human leukocyte antigen-DR (HLA-DR) on activated microglia in the aging brain, suggesting involvement in neuroinflammatory processes. Additionally, Calpain 1 is critical in spermatogenesis and the acrosome reaction, underscoring significance in reproductive biology. Calpain 1 monoclonal antibody (6C-12) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying cellular dynamics and signaling pathways.
