C5b-9 Antibody (2A1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects C5b-9 protein of mouse and rat origin by western blotting (WB) and immunofluorescence (IF). Anti-C5b-9 antibody (2A1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. C5b-9 protein is a crucial component of the complement system, formed during the activation of complement proteins C5, C6, C7, C8, and C9, which collectively contribute to immune responses. C5b-9 protein plays a dual role in the immune system; while promoting cell lysis through the formation of the membrane attack complex, C5b-9 protein also induces cell cycle activation and survival in certain contexts, such as in oligodendrocytes, where C5b-9 protein can protect against FAS-mediated apoptosis by modulating caspase-8 processing via phosphoinositide 3-kinase signaling. The balance between pro-inflammatory and neuroprotective roles is particularly significant in conditions like multiple sclerosis, where C5b-9 protein may exacerbate inflammation during the acute phase while offering protective effects in the chronic phase. Understanding the functional dynamics of C5b-9 protein is essential for elucidating implications in various pathological conditions and therapeutic strategies.
