C1q Antibody (1A4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects C1q protein of human origin by immunoprecipitation (IP) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). C1q Antibody (1A4) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. C1q is a crucial component of the classical complement pathway, consisting of nine subunits that facilitate classical complement activation, thereby playing a vital role in immune response. C1q′s structure comprises six disulfide-linked dimers of chains A and B, along with three additional subunits, designated C1q-A through C1q-C, which are disulfide-linked dimers of chain C. This unique structural arrangement allows C1q to effectively bind to immune complexes and apoptotic cells, initiating a cascade of immune responses that help clear pathogens and debris from the body. Specific receptors for C1q on effector cells modulate activity, which can be either antibody-dependent or independent, highlighting C1q′s multifaceted role in immune regulation. Macrophages are the primary source of C1q, and expression is differentially regulated by anti-inflammatory drugs and cytokines, underscoring C1q′s significance in maintaining immune homeostasis. Defects in C1q subunits can lead to inactivation of the classical pathway, resulting in a rare genetic disorder characterized by lupus-like symptoms, further emphasizing C1q′s importance in both health and disease.
