BHMT Antibody (H-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects betaine-homocysteine methyltransferase (BHMT) of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). BHMT (H-7) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. BHMT plays a crucial role in the methionine cycle, catalyzing the conversion of betaine and homocysteine into dimethylglycine and methionine, respectively, which is vital for maintaining proper homocysteine levels in the body. This enzymatic activity is particularly important as elevated homocysteine levels are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. BHMT is predominantly expressed in the liver, where expression is influenced by dietary intake of methionine and choline, highlighting BHMT′s role in nutrient metabolism and homeostasis. Additionally, in humans, BHMT expression is down-regulated by S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) through the activation of NFκB, which serves as a repressor for the BHMT gene.
