BGT-1 Antibody (D-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects BGT-1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). BGT-1 (D-5) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. BGT-1, also known as sodium- and chloride-dependent betaine transporter or SLC6A12, consists of 614 amino acids and is characterized as a multi-pass membrane protein. BGT-1 is primarily located in the liver, heart, skeletal muscle, and placenta, with a significant presence in the brain. BGT-1′s structure features twelve transmembrane domains and a large extracellular loop between the third and fourth domains, which is typical of neurotransmitter transporters. This structural configuration enables BGT-1 to transport betaine and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), playing a vital role in regulating GABAergic transmission in the brain through GABA reuptake into presynaptic terminals. BGT-1 is implicated in osmotic regulation and has been associated with mucus production in asthma, potentially influencing the reversibility of lung function abnormalities in patients with aspirin-intolerant asthma. BGT-1 exhibits significant functional differences from other members of the GABA transporter family, highlighting a unique role in neurotransmission and cellular homeostasis.
