β-1,4-Gal-T1 Antibody (A-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects β-1,4-Gal-T1 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-β-1,4-Gal-T1 antibody (A-3) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The β-1,4-Gal-T1 gene, located on chromosome 9p13, is one of seven genes encoding beta-1,4-galactosyltransferases, which are type II membrane-bound glycoproteins that specifically utilize UDP-galactose as a donor substrate. These proteins are crucial for the transfer of galactose in a beta-1,4 linkage to acceptor sugars such as N-acetylglucosamine, glucose, and xylose, playing a significant role in the biosynthesis of glycoconjugates. β-1,4-Gal-T1 is unique among its family as β-1,4-Gal-T1 is involved in both glycoconjugation and lactose biosynthesis, highlighting its importance in cellular processes. Two transcripts of approximately 4.1 kb and 3.9 kb encode β-1,4-Gal-T1, differing only at their 5′ ends; the longer transcript encodes the membrane-bound form that resides in the trans-Golgi network, while the shorter transcript produces a soluble form that contributes to lactose synthase activity. This dual functionality underscores β-1,4-Gal-T1′s critical role in both glycan structure formation and lactation, making β-1,4-Gal-T1 a vital component in various biological processes.
