Bestrophin Antibody (E6-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Bestrophin protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. Anti-Bestrophin antibody (E6-6) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Bestrophin plays a crucial role in maintaining retinal health, forming oligomeric chloride channels in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) that are sensitive to intracellular calcium levels. These channels are essential for regulating ion transport and fluid homeostasis in the retina, which is vital for photoreceptor function and overall vision. Mutations in Bestrophin can lead to Best vitelliform macular dystrophy, commonly known as Best disease, characterized by the accumulation of lipofuscin-like material in the RPE, resulting in progressive vision loss. Human Bestrophin encodes a 585 amino acid protein that contains four putative transmembrane domains and is localized to the basolateral plasma membrane of RPE cells.
