α-S1-casein Antibody (D-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects alpha-S1-casein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). α-S1-casein Antibody (D-8) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Alpha-S1-casein, also known as CSN1S1, CSN1, or CASA, is a 185 amino acid secreted protein specifically produced in the mammary gland and belongs to the α-casein family. Alpha-S1-casein plays a crucial role in transporting calcium phosphate, essential for developing and maintaining healthy bones and teeth. Alpha-S1-casein exists as a disulfide-linked heterodimer with κ-casein, enhancing functional properties in milk. The gene encoding alpha-S1-casein is located on human chromosome 4, a region encoding other casein family members and containing significant gene deserts, which are areas devoid of protein-coding genes. This chromosome is implicated in various genetic disorders, including Huntington′s disease and polycystic kidney disease, highlighting the importance of understanding proteins encoded within this genomic region.
