HSV-1 ICP4 Antibody (H943) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects HSV-1 ICP4 protein of HSV-1 origin by western blotting (WB) and immunofluorescence (IF). Infected-cell polypeptide 4 (ICP4) is a crucial immediate early transcriptional regulatory protein produced by herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) shortly after infection, playing a vital role in the viral life cycle. HSV-1 ICP4 is essential for the transcription of both early and late viral genes, thereby facilitating viral replication and propagation. HSV-1 ICP4′s function is particularly important as HSV-1 ICP4 amplifies the transcription rates of viral genes by activating gene expression, which is critical for the virus to establish infection. HSV-1 ICP4 achieves this by enhancing the formation of transcription initiation complexes mediated by RNA polymerase II, specifically promoting the assembly of preinitiation complexes through increased binding of TFIID to the TATA box. Additionally, HSV-1 ICP4 is involved in maintaining the structural integrity of the HSV-1 genome, as HSV-1 ICP4 directs the genome into a unique endless looped conformation upon infection, which is essential for efficient viral replication.
