Smac Antibody (C-10) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Smac protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Smac (C-10) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Smac protein, also known as second mitochondria-derived activator of caspase, plays a crucial role in regulating apoptosis by promoting caspase activation, which is essential for programmed cell death execution. Located primarily in mitochondria under normal conditions, Smac protein releases into cytosol during apoptosis, where Smac binds to Inhibitors of Apoptosis Proteins (IAPs) to counteract their inhibitory effects on caspases. This interaction ensures proper progression of apoptotic pathway by allowing caspases to effectively carry out cell death function. Smac′s ability to modulate IAP activity highlights Smac′s importance in maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing uncontrolled cell proliferation, making Smac a significant target for therapeutic interventions in cancer and other diseases characterized by dysregulated apoptosis.
