RBM15B Activators

RBM15B, or RNA Binding Motif Protein 15B, is a protein that plays an essential role in the regulation of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. The "RB" in RBM15B signifies its classification as an RNA-binding protein, "M" refers to the RNA-binding motif, and the "15B" distinguishes it as a specific member of the RBM protein family. This protein is encoded by the gene RBM15B in humans.RBM15B is part of the SPEN (Split-End) family of proteins, which are characterized by their ability to interact with both RNA and DNA, influencing various aspects of RNA metabolism including splicing, export, and stability. It contains multiple functional domains: an N-terminal region with three RRMs (RNA recognition motifs), which are responsible for binding RNA, and a C-terminal SPOC (Spen paralog and ortholog C-terminal) domain, thought to mediate protein-protein interactions and transcriptional repression.

The protein is implicated in the regulation of alternative splicing, a process that allows the generation of diverse protein isoforms from a single gene by including or excluding certain exons during pre-mRNA processing. By influencing the splicing machinery and the selection of splice sites, RBM15B affects the transcriptome landscape within a cell, thereby modulating the proteome.RBM15B also plays a role in the expression of specific genes, such as those involved in the development of megakaryocytes, the bone marrow cells responsible for the production of platelets. It has been implicated in pathologies such as acute megakaryoblastic leukemia, where its dysregulation may contribute to aberrant gene expression patterns that promote leukemogenesis.

Methyl jasmonate is involved in plant stress responses but in human cells could influence gene expression, potentially leading to increased levels of RBM15B.
