PP1α Inhibitors

Common PP1α Inhibitors include, but are not limited to Thiacloprid CAS 111988-49-9, Calyculin A CAS 101932-71-2, Okadaic Acid CAS 78111-17-8, Cantharidin CAS 56-25-7 and Endothall CAS 145-73-3.

Protein phosphatase 1 alpha (PP1α) belongs to the protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) family, which is a group of serine/threonine-specific phosphatases widely expressed in eukaryotic cells. These phosphatases play essential roles in a variety of cellular processes by dephosphorylating many key regulatory proteins. The act of dephosphorylation by PP1s, including PP1α, counterbalances the activities of kinases and ensures the tight regulation of phosphorylation homeostasis within the cell. PP1α, in particular, is involved in multiple cellular pathways, such as glycogen metabolism, cell cycle progression, muscle contraction, and protein synthesis. The specificity of PP1α towards its plethora of substrates is governed by a diverse range of regulatory proteins that bind to it, directing the phosphatase to its appropriate target and modulating its activity.

PP1α inhibitors are molecules that specifically hinder the enzymatic activity of PP1α. These inhibitors typically function by interacting with the catalytic or regulatory domains of the enzyme, preventing it from binding to or dephosphorylating its substrates. Because PP1α plays a critical role in numerous cellular processes, its inhibition can lead to significant alterations in cellular physiology.
