OIP106 Activators

The inhibitors of Hsp90 such as Geldanamycin, 17-AAG, and Radicicol, can influence the protein folding process, which is the main function of OIP106. By inhibiting Hsp90, they can cause a compensatory increase in other protein folding mechanisms, potentially including the prefoldin complex that OIP106 is part of. Cyclosporin A and FK506 are inhibitors of calcineurin, a protein that can regulate protein folding and degradation, so they could also potentially influence the function of OIP106.

In addition, the inhibitors of mTOR and various components of DNA and protein synthesis pathways, including Rapamycin, Methotrexate, 5-Fluorouracil, Hydroxyurea, Azathioprine, 6-Mercaptopurine, and Mycophenolate Mofetil can affect the rate and nature of protein synthesis, potentially influencing the workload of protein folding mechanisms and thus the function of OIP106. These chemicals do not activate OIP106 in the conventional sense, but they can indirectly influence its activity through their effects on cellular pathways and processes.
