OGFOD1 Activators

OGFOD1, or 2-oxoglutarate and iron-dependent oxygenase domain-containing protein 1, is a protein encoded by the OGFOD1 gene in humans. This protein belongs to the 2OG-Fe(II) oxygenase superfamily, which is characterized by a double-stranded beta-helix (DSBH) core structure and a conserved iron-binding motif.OGFOD1 has a role in post-transcriptional modification and is known to hydroxylate a specific proline residue (Pro-38) in the small ribosomal subunit protein uS12. This modification is speculated to function in optimizing the conformation of the anticodon stem-loop of the tRNA during the decoding of the genetic code.

Additionally, alterations in OGFOD1 expression have been implicated in tumorigenesis, due to the protein's role in the regulation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF), a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in cellular responses to low oxygen conditions.In summary, as a prolyl hydroxylase, OGFOD1 plays a crucial role in the proper functioning of the ribosome and in protein synthesis. It is also implicated in the regulation of cellular responses to hypoxia, making it a protein of interest in the study of cancer biology.
