Mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule-1 (MAdCAM-1) inhibitors represent a distinct class of compounds designed to modulate immune responses by targeting the MAdCAM-1 protein. MAdCAM-1 is a cell adhesion molecule predominantly expressed on the surface of specialized endothelial cells found in the mucosal tissues of the gastrointestinal tract. This protein plays a crucial role in facilitating the recruitment and trafficking of lymphocytes, particularly the integrin α4β7-expressing lymphocytes, to mucosal sites.
