Further, compounds like Stannous chloride, which acts as a reducing agent, can alter the redox state of iron, thereby affecting the iron pool available for Fe-S cluster formation that involves BOLA2. Similarly, Dipyridyl, Mimosine, and Pyridoxal isonicotinoyl hydrazone (PIH) also chelate iron, depriving BOLA2 of the essential metal needed for its activity in cluster assembly. By binding to iron, these inhibitors prevent BOLA2 from participating in the assembly process, effectively shutting down the protein's function.
