Calpain 1/2 Antibody (28F3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects Calpain 1/2 protein of human and bovine origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Calpain 1/2 antibody (28F3) is available as the non-conjugated format. Calpain, an intracellular calcium-dependent protease, plays a crucial role in various cellular processes, including cytoskeletal reorganization and muscle protein degradation, making Calpain essential for maintaining cellular integrity and function. Calpain exists as a heterodimer, consisting of a small regulatory subunit and one of three large catalytic subunits: calpain 1, calpain 2, and calpain p94. Notably, calpain activity is tightly regulated by calpastatin, which inhibits both the proteolytic activity of calpain and membrane binding. Calpastatin is present in two forms—tissue type and erythrocyte type—resulting from alternative splicing and proteolytic processing, highlighting the complexity of calpain regulation. Understanding the interactions and regulatory mechanisms of calpain is vital for elucidating calpain′s role in health and disease, particularly in muscle-related disorders and cellular signaling pathways.
