SMN Antibody (MANSMA1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects SMN in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). SMN, or survival of motor neuron, is a crucial protein involved in the assembly of spliceosomal small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), which are essential for pre-mRNA splicing. This process ensures that introns are removed and exons are joined together to form mature mRNA. SMN protein is predominantly located in both the cytoplasm and nucleus, where SMN forms a complex with several other proteins, including Gemin2, Gemin3, and various spliceosomal snRNP proteins. SMN presence in subnuclear bodies known as gems highlights SMN′s role in recycling splicing factors, which maintains efficient gene expression. Mutations in the SMN gene lead to spinal muscular atrophy, a severe neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor neuron loss, underscoring SMN′s importance in neuronal health and function. With SMN′s ability to facilitate snRNP assembly and widespread expression in tissues such as brain, spinal cord, and skeletal muscle, SMN serves as a key player in cellular machinery governing gene regulation and expression.
