SEE ALSO...

uricase Antibody (C-11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a λ light chain antibody that detects uricase protein of mouse and rat origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). uricase Antibody (C-11) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Uricase, also known as urate oxidase, plays a crucial role in purine metabolism by catalyzing the oxidation of uric acid to allantoin, a more soluble compound that can be easily excreted from the body. This enzymatic function is particularly important as elevated levels of uric acid can lead to conditions such as gout and kidney stones. In most mammals, uricase is predominantly found in the liver, localized within peroxisomes, and exists as a tetramer, which is essential for enzymatic activity. Interestingly, humans and certain primates lack this enzyme due to a genetic mutation that occurred relatively recently in evolutionary terms, which has implications for the management of uric acid levels in these species. The gene encoding uricase is located on human chromosome 1p22, and understanding its structure and function can provide insights into metabolic disorders associated with purine metabolism, such as Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, which is linked to deficiencies in the purine salvage pathway.
