UPIb Antibody (1E1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects UPIb protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-UPIb antibody (1E1) is available as the non-conjugated format, providing researchers with a reliable tool for studying this important protein. UPIb is a member of the uroplakin family, which plays a crucial role in the formation of the asymmetric unit membrane (AUM) in the urothelium. The AUM is essential for maintaining the integrity of the bladder lining, as it forms plaques that protect against mechanical stress during bladder distention. These plaques are composed of four major integral membrane proteins: UPIa, UPIb, UPII, and UPIII, which are conserved across various species, including humans, mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, pigs, and sheep. The interaction between UPIa and UPIb with UPII and UPIII is vital for normal urothelial plaque formation, and this process is regulated by the proteolytic processing of the uroplakin proteins. Uroplakins are not only expressed in normal urothelium but also serve as specific markers for urothelial differentiation, making them significant in the context of transitional cell carcinomas of the bladder. Their expression in a majority of these carcinomas highlights their potential as biomarkers for detecting bladder cancer metastasis and for staging and monitoring responses to chemotherapy.

For Western Blot, is it recommended to use denatured or non-denatured conditions with UPIb (1E1): sc-517025 antibody?

Asked by: cjMara
Thank you for your question. We recommend this antibody for use in denatured Western Blot conditions. It has not been validated for use in non-denatured conditions. Please contact our Technical Service Department for further details or inquiries.
