UMPS Antibody (A-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects uridine 5′-monophosphate synthase (UMPS) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). UMPS (A-9) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. UMPS plays a crucial role in the pyrimidine biosynthetic pathway by catalyzing the final two steps, which are essential for the synthesis of nucleotides necessary for DNA and RNA production. In eukaryotes, UMPS uniquely combines the activities of orotate phosphoribosyltransferase and orotidine-5′-monophosphate decarboxylase into a single protein, a feature that enhances the stability of catalytic centers, particularly important given the low molar concentration in mammalian cells. Disruption of UMPS activity can lead to hereditary orotic aciduria, a rare genetic disorder that manifests as growth retardation, anemia, and increased urinary excretion of orotic acid. Additionally, two isoforms of UMPS arise from alternative splicing, which may have implications for functional diversity and regulation in different tissues.
