transgelin-2 Antibody (D-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG3 antibody that detects transgelin-2 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Transgelin-2, also known as SM22α homolog, is a crucial protein expressed predominantly in smooth muscle cells and peritoneal B-1 cells, playing a significant role in the regulation of actin dynamics. The human transgelin-2 gene, designated TAGLN2, is located on chromosome 1q23.1-q25 and encodes a 199 amino acid protein that features a calponin-like repeat and a calponin-homology domain, which are essential for its interaction with actin. This interaction is vital as transgelin-2 binds to actin filaments, promoting the formation of gel-like structures that are critical for maintaining cellular integrity and facilitating smooth muscle contraction. Notably, during embryogenesis, transgelin-2 is expressed in various muscle types, but transgelin-2 expression becomes restricted to vascular and visceral smooth muscle cells in adulthood, with diminished levels in cardiac tissue. The downregulation of transgelin-2 in transformed cell lines suggests that transgelin-2 may serve as an early biomarker for cellular transformation, highlighting transgelin-2′s importance in both normal physiology and disease states. Anti-transgelin-2 antibody (D-8) is an invaluable tool for researchers investigating transgelin-2′s roles in smooth muscle function and its implications in various pathologies.
