SUMF2 Antibody (SJ-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects SUMF2 in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SUMF2, also known as sulfatase-modifying factor 2 or pFGE, is a crucial 301 amino acid protein that plays a significant role in the post-translational modification of sulfatases, which are essential enzymes responsible for the hydrolysis of sulfate esters. This modification is vital for sulfatase function, involving the generation of Cα-formylglycine (FGly), a unique amino acid necessary for catalytic activity. SUMF2 is primarily localized in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum, where SUMF2 operates as an FGly-generating enzyme. While SUMF2 exhibits low catalytic activity alone, SUMF2 function is significantly enhanced when forming a heterodimer with SUMF1, another FGly-generating protein. SUMF2 expression is widespread, with notable presence in tissues such as lung, heart, placenta, brain, liver, pancreas, skeletal muscle, and kidney, highlighting SUMF2′s importance in various physiological processes. Alternative splicing events give rise to four distinct isoforms of SUMF2, which may have unique regulatory roles in sulfatase activity and cellular function.
