Streptococcus agalactiae Antibody (1.B.501) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects Streptococcus agalactiae protein by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Streptococcus agalactiae antibody (1.B.501) is available as a non-conjugated format. Streptococcus agalactiae is a Gram-positive bacterium causing severe infections like bacteremia and meningitis, particularly affecting immunocompromised individuals and neonates. This bacterium contains group B Lancefield antigens and typically inhabits the healthy gut and female urogenital tract. A key feature of Streptococcus agalactiae is a polysaccharide antiphagocytic capsule serving as a major virulence factor. This capsule protects against phagocytosis by immune cells while stimulating host immune response, contributing significantly to disease progression. During the perinatal period, capsule presence can trigger serious infections in newborns, including neonatal pneumonia, sepsis, and meningitis, often manifesting as poor feeding, vomiting, fever, and irritability. Research on capsule function in Streptococcus agalactiae pathogenicity remains essential for developing effective treatments and vaccines.
