SREBP-2 Antibody (A-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects SREBP-2 of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SREBP-2 Antibody (A-12) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SREBP-2, or Sterol Regulatory Element-Binding Protein 2, plays a crucial role in cholesterol homeostasis by regulating the expression of genes involved in cholesterol synthesis and uptake, particularly the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor. The LDL receptor is essential for mediating the endocytic uptake of cholesterol-carrying lipoproteins, thereby maintaining cellular and plasma cholesterol levels. The transcription of the LDL receptor gene is tightly controlled by a specific sequence known as sterol regulatory element 1 (SRE-1), which is activated when cellular sterol stores are low, leading to increased LDL uptake. SREBP-2, along with SREBP-1, is a basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper transcription factor that binds to SRE-1, facilitating the transcription of target genes. Understanding SREBP-2 function is vital, as dysregulation of cholesterol metabolism is linked to various diseases, including cardiovascular disorders and metabolic syndromes.
