Sorbitol Dehydrogenase Antibody (E-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG3 kappa light chain antibody that detects Sorbitol Dehydrogenase (SORD) of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-SORD antibody (E-8) is available as the non-conjugated format. SORD, also known as L-iditol 2-dehydrogenase or SORD1, is a 357 amino acid enzyme that belongs to the zinc-containing alcohol dehydrogenase family and plays a crucial role in the metabolism of polyols. SORD is predominantly expressed in the kidney and lens of the eye, where SORD catalyzes the zinc-dependent conversion of sorbitol and xylitol to their corresponding ketoses, utilizing NAD+ as an oxidizing agent. This enzymatic activity is essential for the proper functioning of the sorbitol pathway, which is involved in sugar production and cellular energy metabolism. Disruptions in SORD function can lead to an accumulation of sorbitol, contributing to diabetic complications such as cataracts and microvascular issues. SORD monoclonal antibody (E-8) effectively detects SORD across multiple species, making SORD (E-8) antibody a valuable tool for researchers studying metabolic disorders and their implications in human health.
