SEE ALSO...

Somatostatin Antibody (G-10) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Somatostatin protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Somatostatin (G-10) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Somatostatin is a crucial regulatory hormone that plays a significant role in inhibiting the release of several secondary hormones by binding to high-affinity G protein-coupled somatostatin receptors. This cyclic tetradecapeptide inhibits the secretion of key hormones such as growth hormone, insulin, and glucagon, maintaining hormonal balance. Somatostatin is predominantly located in the hypothalamus and pancreas, where this hormone regulates insulin synthesis, highlighting Somatostatin′s importance in glucose metabolism and overall endocrine function. Somatostatin exists in two active forms—Somatostatin-14 and Somatostatin-28—produced through alternate cleavage of a single preproprotein, with distinct expression patterns in the cerebellum at different developmental stages. Located on human chromosome 3q27, Somatostatin expression is critical for modulating neurotransmission rates in the central nervous system and influencing the proliferation of both normal and tumorigenic cells.

I'm looking to do some larger scale immunohistochemistry for somatostatin in brain. I am wondering if it is possible to get the free trial size aliquots for sc55565, sc74556, and sc25262? Hopefully, if one works with my procedures, I can order more.

Is Somatostatin antibody (G-10, sc-55565) specific for the detection of Somatostation-28 and Somatostatin antibody (H-11, sc-74556) for the detection of Somatostatin-14. I get two different staining profile using these two antibodies in the same tissue.

Asked by: Nafiseh
Thank you for your question. These two monoclonal antibodies are raised against different, yet overlapping N-terminal recombinant protein sequences derived from human Somatostatin. The exact epitopes recognized by each monoclonal antibody have not been determined, and we do not have any information about which cleaved forms of Somatostatin 14 or 28 they may specifically detect. We would recommend checking some of the product citations using the antibodies to see if anyone else has observed a similar result. Please contact our Technical Service Department for further support.

I need an antibody to make IF and WB from extracts of ovine pancreas. Do you know if this monoclonal antibody will work?

Asked by: Ronald
Somatostatin (G-10) monoclonal antibody, sc-55565, is recommended for detection of Somatostatin of human origin, and has not been tested for ovine samples. However, since the epitope used to make this antibody has 99% sequence identity to the ovine Somatostatin sequence (accession#O46688), I would expect this antibody to pick up Somatostatin in ovine samples without hesitation. Please feel free to contact technical support if you have any further questions!
