SMVT Antibody (D-11) is a mouse monoclonal IgM kappa antibody that detects the SMVT protein of human origin, Slc5a6 protein of mouse origin, and the corresponding rat homolog by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-SMVT antibody (D-11) is available as the non-conjugated form. The sodium-dependent multivitamin transporter (SMVT) is a 635 amino acid protein that plays a crucial role in the transport of essential vitamins such as pantothenate, biotin, and the metabolite lipoate into various human tissues. Located in the plasma membrane, SMVT is vital for cellular uptake of these nutrients, which are necessary for numerous metabolic processes. Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is essential for synthesizing fatty acids, gluconeogenesis, and metabolizing amino acids, while pantothenate, or vitamin B5, is critical for the metabolism and synthesis of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Lipoate, on the other hand, is involved in oxidative metabolism, making SMVT indispensable for maintaining cellular health and energy production. The protein′s structure includes 12 putative transmembrane domains, with both the N and C termini oriented towards the cytoplasm, facilitating its function as a specialized carrier that utilizes the transmembrane sodium ion gradient and membrane potential to actively transport these vital nutrients into cells.
